NAGE Requests Higher Employee Mileage Reimbursement for MA State Employees

This week, NAGE and several other Massachusetts public sector unions wrote to MA Secretary of Administration and Finance Matthew Gorzkowicz requesting that the rate of mileage reimbursement be increased from 62 cents to 72.5 cents per mile for state employees who use their personal vehicle for work-related travel.

The letter notes that the current rate of 62 cents "woefully falls behind the Internal

Revenue Service level of 72.5 cents per mile— a rate that has already failed to reflect the

recent spike in prices due to geopolitical conflicts unfolding across the world."

Given the dramatic increase in the cost of gasoline, as well as the reduction in telework

across the state, this burden has become greater than most employees can or should bear.

NAGE will continue to provide updates as this situation develops.

Union Local Tax Issues

Federal law now requires that every local union file an annual information return—Form 990, 990-EZ, or 990-N—with the IRS.

If your local fails to file under this new requirement, your local will lose its tax-exempt status.
