May 08, 2017   |   Back to News Update: NAGE Units 1, 3 and 6 Contract Negotiations Contract negotiations between NAGE State Units 1, 3 & 6, and the Commonwealth are going well.  The NAGE negotiating team has met every other week, beginning on March 9, 2017.  Meeting have been moving forward and information on negotiations will be updated further as soon as possible.  The negotiations team is meeting with the Commonwealth next on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.

On Thursday, March 9, 2017 the NAGE State Units 1, 3 and 6 negotiating team had its first formal negotiations session with the Commonwealth. The current contract is set to expire June 30, 2017 and the team is working to negotiate a new agreement by July 2017. The contract proposal will be for 3 years and will expire June 30, 2020. Kevin Preston, NAGE’s chief negotiator for the Units 1, 3, 6 led the team through the proposals made by NAGE members for the upcoming contract.  NAGE’s negotiation team that was elected by the members in the fall of 2016, met with the Commonwealth’s negotiating team for the first time today. NAGE and the Commonwealth agreed to the rules of negotiation and set future negotiating dates. Additionally NAGE’s team proposed to have sub committees to negotiate on important benefits and rights members want to have and expand upon in our union contract, including career development, leave, telecommuting and flextime to name a few.

In 2016 NAGE sent out an email that asked all our state members to weigh in on what they wanted to see in the upcoming contract. We were delighted to see participation from nearly 70 percent of our members. Your input was crucial in today’s meeting with the Commonwealth and serves as a weathervane throughout the negotiations process.
We will keep you up to date as the negotiations process moves along. Remember to check NAGE.org/state for up to date information on the negotiations process. Also, remember to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
