The Department of Family and Medical Leave (DFML) recently announced changes to the contribution rate and to the maximum weekly benefit amount for Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) benefits to become effective in January 2022. Below are descriptions of the changes.

 

Contribution Rates

Effective January 1, 2022 the new contribution rate on eligible employee wages will be 0.68%. This is a decrease from the current contribution rate of 0.75%.

As an employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, your contribution will be 0.3434% of your wages during 2022; the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will contribute the remaining 0.3366% of the required 0.68%. This equals an approximately 50/50 split share in contributions.

 

Maximum Benefit Amount

Beginning in January 2022, the maximum total amount that an eligible employee can receive in PFML benefits will be $1,084.31 per week. This is an increase from the current maximum benefit amount of $850 per week.

 

REMINDER

If you need a family or medical leave, your first point of contact should be your Agency’s leave coordinator in your HR department. They will be able you help you navigate the process of applying for a leave with the Agency and, if you do not want to use your accrued paid leave, advise you on how to file a claim for paid PFML benefits with the DFML.
