Budget Update
As Congress continues to negotiate over the most recent round of COVID-19 related emergency funding, the state legislature and Governor Baker have taken steps to fund state government through October 31st.
Governor Baker signed the interim budget, passed by the legislature last week, ensuring the continued operation of state government for 3 months. This will allow the legislature to work towards building a clearer picture of Massachusetts' longer term fiscal outlook for the remaining 8 months of FY21.
The legislature and the Baker administration are hoping to have a better handle on what relief the federal government is expected to provide, in addition to a stronger sense of the full impact that the pandemic has had on state tax revenues. At this point, we anticipate a full budget proposal to emerge sometime in the fall. NAGE continues to advocate for Congress and the state legislature to pass a budget beyond October 31st that will benefit and protect our NAGE members.
