National President David J. Holway wrote to Governor Deval Patrick today, requesting that he intervene in a case in which a 19-year state employee was terminated after filing an MCAD claim subsequent to being denied a reasonable accommodation for a disability.
The termination followed years of what the employee described as harassment and retaliation by his Human Resources director.
Last Thursday, Unit 6, Local 207 President Theresa McGoldrick and the employee's private counsel tried to accompany the employee to his termination hearing. The private counsel was denied access to the hearing, and when he and President McGoldrick attempted to protect the employee's rights, management told them to leave. When they would not leave, management called the Malden police to have them removed from the building under threat of arrest if they didn't.
President Holway wrote to the governor to describe the complete lack of respect these indivuals were shown, and to ask for him to intervene on the employee's behalf.
