In late-night sessions on July 29, the House and Senate both approved an $80 million supplemental FY2010 state budget that includes $9.4 million in Trial Court funding and a provision to allow the Trial Court the ability to transfer funds within its budget.
Although the $9.4 million in the supplemental budget doesn’t equal the $18.5 million the governor vetoed from the Trial Court expenditures in the conference committee budget, the restored funds are definitely welcome relief.
“We all understand how difficult it is for lawmakers to handle a budget in times like these, but we’re grateful that they are willing to help us avert a catastrophic situation,” said David Bernard, the NAGE public safety director for Massachusetts.
The breakdown looks like this:
| Line Item | Department | Supplemental Amount | Veto Amount |
| 0330-0300 | CJAM (incl. court security) | $3,3500,000 | $5,763,000 |
| 0330-3337 | Add'l funds | $950,000 | $1,892,000 |
| 0333-0002 | Probate/Family Court | $500,000 | $702,000 |
| 0335-0001 | Boston Municipal Court | $150,000 | $310,000 |
| 0339-1001 | Commissioner of Probation | $4,170,000 | $9,000,000 |
| 0339-1003 | Community Corrections Office | $300,000 | $789,000 |
The bill will go to the desk of Gov. Deval Patrick, who has not yet indicated whether or not he will sign the supplemental budget into law.
