Call Your Legislators NOW to Urge Budget Veto Overrides

July 9, 2009

As you may know, Governor Deval Patrick vetoed $18.5 million in Trial Court funding when he signed the FY2010 budget into law recently. That budget cut reduced the Trial Court budget from the $569.1 million approved by the legislature to $550.7 million.

To put that into perspective for you: the Trial Court makes up only a little over 2% of the legislature’s FY10 budget. The governor’s $18.5 million veto represents about 12.5% of the total amount vetoed. The $550.7 million figure is $51 million less than the Trial Court’s original appropriation for the past fiscal year.

The Trial Court and NAGE agree that these reductions will have a severe impact on court operations if they are not overridden.

Please call or email your state representative and state senator IMMEDIATELY to urge them to override the $18.5 million veto to the Trial Court budget.

  • You can call 617-722-2000, the main number at the State House, and ask for your legislators by name.
  • You can also go to the legislature’s website at www.mass.gov/legis and find links to the House and Senate members on the left side of the screen. (Don’t know who your rep and senator are? Go to www.mass.gov/legis/city_town and look your legislators up by city/town.)
