The Trial Court has announced that, effective immediately, chief court officers will now assign per-diem court officers to the sessions and/or locations according to staffing requirements at each court. As you may be aware, this represents a change from the longstanding practice of accommodating per diem preference in staffing assignments (a policy usually referred to as the “Keough letter”.
This change in policy is the result of several months of good faith discussions between the Trial Court security team, Local 228 President Dave Abbott, and members of your executive board.
“It’s been a priority of ours for a long time to resolve the situation regarding the use of per diem court officers,” said Abbott. “Dave Bernard and our executive board and the Trial Court security people all worked together, and the result is a better staffing policy.”
If management at your court does not comply with this new policy, please contact David Bernard at dbernard@nage.org or 617-376-7250 as soon as possible.
