Lynn Candela is the president of NAGE Local R1-086 at the VA Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She worked as a licensed practical nurse at the hospital for over twenty years.
Lynn began reading up on workplace policies when her fellow employees started coming to her with questions. The union noticed her willingness to be involved and asked her to be a steward, and she worked her way up through the ranks.
Since she got more involved with her local, Lynn said, the members of her local have learned the importance of getting more organized. “Employees have more of a voice now that they’re more organized. We’re making changes locally and nationally.”
When she’s not on the job, Lynn enjoys spending time with her golden retriever, her two adult children, and is looking forward to spending time with her first grandson on the way.
