Susie McLean-Zady is a shy person by nature, but has always been one to stand up for others. She began working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Merit Rating Board in June 1985. In 1994 she became a member of the RMV/MRB Ruggles Center Safety Committee. In order to keep her co-workers informed on the discussions of the Safety Committee, she created a memorandum which she wrote, replicated and distributed after each meeting. At the time, the President of Local R1-291, John Donegan had been given a copy of one of the memos and asked her to act as a union representative. She became shop steward in late 1990 and is currently vice president of this local.

McLean became a National Executive Board member soon after and continues to serve today. She volunteers for various events through NAGE, AFLO-CIO and the Greater Boston Labor Council. She is a current member of SEIU AFRAM.
