Public Employee Enemy Number 1

Yesterday, House and Senate negotiators announced that they had reached agreement on a final supplemental budget bill that included authorizations for NAGE's collective bargaining agreements.

While this is great news and moves us much closer to the conclusion of the legislative process, we are dismayed to report that Republican Representative Paul Frost has blocked movement of the bill for the second day in a row today.

Even though Republicans in the House had an opportunity to debate their concerns and record their opposition to certain elements of the bill during the initial debate, Rep. Frost has opted to use a procedural maneuver in the informal session to block final passage of legislation that was approved by an overwhelming majority of House members.

The minority party in the House had an opportunity to offer constructive opposition during the initial debate.  The actions by Rep Paul Frost yesterday and today are obstructionist and serve to only delay the process with no viable means of achieving policy changes to a bill that has already been debated.  As such, Rep. Paul Frost is now actively obstructing final approval of our CBAs and has caused an even further delay to this already drawn out process.

House leadership has called for a rare Saturday session tomorrow to attempt to move final passage of the bill and has indicated that they will continue to meet until the bill is enacted and sent to the Governor.

Please take a moment to call Rep. Paul Frost and tell him to stop obstructing final passage of the supplemental budget immediately. His continued obstruction will only cause further delays in critical funding getting where it needs to go, including our hard-fought pay raises.

NAGE will continue to monitor this developing situation and provide updates as needed.
