Below you will find the letter sent to HRD detailing all of the evidence presented at the meeting supporting a return to telework. As described in the letter, the Mayor of Boston, the MA Attorney General, the Comptroller, the Trial Court, MWRA, and others have swiftly put plans in place to protect their employees. NAGE asks the Commonwealth to do the same.
NAGE will continue our efforts to ensure the Commonwealth does the right thing for the health and safety of our members.
January 4, 2022 UPDATE - In the wake of NAGE's urging the Baker Administration to return to State employee's to telework, the city of Boston has temporarily decreased capacity limits in City buildings. Employees whose job functions are crucial to in-person work will be directed to report in, and others who are able to telework will be directed to do so. This is to remain in effect until January 18, 2022.
Due to the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases in the Commonwealth, NAGE has urged Governor Baker to return all eligible State employees to teleworking. NAGE is also advocating for an additional round of Hazard Pay for those who are not able to perform their job functions remotely. We are urging Governor Baker to act swiftly in the best interest of the health & safety of the state workforce.

January 5, 2021 UPDATE - Yesterday afternoon, a coalition of MA public-sector unions, spearheaded by NAGE, met with HRD to continue our efforts to re-establish telework and increase health & safety measures for our members. The staggering surge in COVID cases throughout the Commonwealth has illustrated just how badly the return to in-person work needs to be put on pause, and health & safety protections need to be addressed for those who must continue to work in-person.
