IAEP Urges New York Leaders to Enact Pro-EMS Legislative Package

The IAEP cosigned a letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, and Temp. Senate President Andrea Stewart Cousins that urged the leadership team to include several EMS focused bills in the SFY 25 Enacted Budget.

The letter, which was also signed by eleven other New York EMS squads and advocacy groups as well as the New York State Association of Counties, lauded proposed bills like SB4020, which would deem EMS as an essential service in New York, and SB6630, which would improve tax credits for first responders.

“Service providers are struggling to recruit and retain a workforce that is just as important as any other first responder. Without a strong, healthy EMS system, our state’s residents will continue to be put at risk of not receiving emergency medical care,” the letter argued in favor of including this legislative package in the budget.
