Prompt Joins IAEP as First Private EMS Union in Region

On Tuesday, May 10, 2016 employees at Prompt Ambulance in Gary, Indiana voted on whether to join the IAEP.  The decision to join the union won by a landslide vote of 140-32. IAEP National Representative Dary Sardad worked tirelessly on this campaign so that the 220 EMS professionals would gain the right to organize in the region’s very first private EMS bargaining unit.

As first time union members, Prompt’s concerns lie with ongoing safety concerns and policy issues in the workplace. As previously stated by IAEP National Director Phil Petit, "These employees are standing up and voting for a chance to influence their futures.”
The new members have expressed their matched enthusiasm. In an article in the Northwest Indiana Times, EMT Zack Schaeffer stated, "We are very happy with the results of the election last night. We are happy to be a part of the IAEP organization." Schaeffer added, "We look forward to working with management to make Prompt the absolute best EMS service provider that it can be."
The Prompt ambulance drivers, paramedics, and EMTs also displayed their strength and solidarity at the vote on Tuesday night, pictured in the photo gallery below. Images courtesy IAEP members and staff.
The IAEP is looking forward to working with the new members at the bargaining table. Petit stated, “We’re excited to help our new members have a voice in the workplace and to get the rights and benefits these lifesaving workers deserve.”

Congratulations to our new members and welcome to the IAEP family!
