On May 9th and 10th, 2016, EMS professionals at Prompt Ambulance in Gary, Indiana will vote on whether to organize with the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics (IAEP).

Prompt employees have become increasingly frustrated with management’s slow response to safety concerns, constantly changing policies, and perceived favoritism. This growing frustration united these employees in seeking a voice at the bargaining table and in the workplace.
IAEP National Director Phil Petit stated, “Employees are concerned about the quality of care they can provide and they are tired of favoritism in the workplace.” Petit added, “They are standing up and voting for a chance to influence their futures. They want to do everything they can to maintain a top quality level of care for the community they serve every single day.”

Despite past promises made to Prompt employees by management, these EMS professionals have seen little change and continue to face an uphill battle. The IAEP has had to file Unfair Labor Practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of employees affected by the alleged anti-union tactics.

IAEP National Representative Dary Sardad said, “It’s sad that Prompt management won’t pay their employees a living wage. It’s sad that Prompt CEO Gary Miller’s actions and decisions, which have been well-documented, show that he is willing to sacrifice the safety and best interest of the community to further increase his own wealth.”

The IAEP represents thousands of EMS professionals around the country and specializes in providing representation to first responders. To learn more about the IAEP visit or
