Payson LifeStar Workers Vote to Join the IAEP

Payson, AZ - On Friday, January 15th, 2016, LifeStar EMS professionals in Payson, Arizona voted to join the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics (IAEP).
LifeStar was recently acquired by American Medical Response (AMR). Although these EMTs and paramedics had never organized previously, they knew it was necessary to ensure that they will have a voice at the table when changes are made regarding wages, benefits and working conditions.
Chris Lecher, IAEP member and EMS professional at LifeStar, stated, "We know that with AMR coming into town, there will be changes. With the IAEP by our side, we can ensure that none of the changes will affect us negatively. As a large ambulance corporation, we know there's a risk that we might become just a number to the corporate office if we are not in a union. We see this happen with other non-union EMS outfits all the time. But with the IAEP, we won't have that problem.”
IAEP National Director Phil Petit noted, "We have been seeing an increase in the demand to organize with the IAEP from EMS professionals all over the country since AMR has made significant acquisitions last year. EMS professionals know that when it comes to successfully dealing with AMR, the IAEP has the most experience. It's a no-brainer for these hard working professionals."
