
A quick-thinking NAGE member is being hailed as a hero for putting his own truck—and life—in the path of an
oncoming tractor-trailer truck to protect a state trooper on detail from being hit by the speeding tractor-trailer
truck. The accident happened at about 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, on Interstate 495 in Middleborough,
Massachusetts. Highway Department employee Kevin Sullivan of Carver was filling potholes in the right travel lane.
Trooper Michael Fitzgerald, a one-year veteran assigned to the Bourne barracks, was parked in his cruiser in front
of Sullivan’s Mass. Highway truck while Sullivan was performing the road repairs. Both vehicles had their emergency
lights flashing.
