New Severance Package for Macon Workers
Under the urging of the union, the city council in Macon has voted to expand the severance package for city workers. Prior to the vote, when employees were laid off, they were given one week’s pay, regardless of how long they had worked for the city. The City Council finally changed it to the following:
Less than 1 year = 1 week pay
1-5 years = 2 weeks' pay
6-10 years = 3 weeks' pay
11-15 years = 4 weeks' pay
16-20 years = 5 weeks' pay
More than 20 years = 6' weeks pay
Our union lobbied for more than this but this is way better than what was offered before! Let’s hope that there are no more lay offs so that this kind of package won’t be needed!
