Fulton County is seeking to update its personnel regulations, or as many in the county call it, "the blue book." Many of these regulations have not been updated in years. However, we must make sure that as union members, we have a say over what regulations are changed, how they are changed, and what impact the changes will have on the rank-and-file employees. We are working with other employee organizations ito ensure that we have a seat at the table during these discussions.
On Friday, April 23, we met with County Manager Zach Williams to discuss the mid-term budget. We discussed whether we were on track and what the projected budget concerns may be in the immediate future. He said that based on the current situation, it looks like although we will take a hit due to the economy and a decrease in tax revenue, it will not be as bad as last budget season. He also said the county’s biggest priority is to maintain the quality services provided to the community, including saving as many jobs as possible. He said the county is also looking at ways to bring some of the contract work back in-house, where it makes sense. This "insourcing" could save the county money and streamline any excess property in order to cut down on wasteful spending.
