Action Alert! Conferees Finalizing Language for Defense Authorization Bill

October 30, 2007

We urgently need action from NAGE members today! House and Senate conferees are currently hammering out the differences between the two different versions of the FY 2008 Defense Authorization Bill. The language in the final version of this bill will determine what authorities the Department of Defense has to implement the National Security Personnel System (NSPS).

Congressmen Tom Allen (ME-1), Chris Van Hollen (MD-8), and Jay Inslee (WA-1) have authored a letter to conferees asking for the following to be included in the conference report:

  • The House-passed NSPS repeal language in its entirety;
  • The Senate-passed NSPS repeal language for wage-grade workers; and
  • House- and Senate-passed language continuing the exemption of DOD labs from the NSPS.

Please call your Representative today (from a personal phone, not on government time) and ask him or her to sign on to this letter to conferees. You can reach the Capitol Switchboard by calling (202) 224-3121.

You can sign on by contacting Todd Stein (Rep. Allen) at (202) 225-6116 or Bill Parsons (Rep. Van Hollen) at (202) 225-5341.

The draft letter to conferees and a "Dear Colleague" from Reps. Allen, Van Hollen, and Inslee are linked to below for your reference. Please call your representative today!
