NAGE VA Nurse Deploys to Haiti, More Stand Ready to Volunteer
Following the earthquake disaster that struck Haiti, our parent union SEIU partnered with two organizations in their relief efforts—Partners in Health and International Medical Corps—and sought volunteers among the union’s many health care providers. NAGE Joins Forces with Federal Unions in New Federal Workers Alliance
WASHINGTON, DC—The National Association of Government Employees announced today that it has become a founding partner in the new Federal Workers Alliance, which is expected to build on the successes achieved by the United DoD Workers Coalition (UDWC). The new FWA, founded by over 20 labor organizations, will represent more than 300,000 federal workers from hundreds of federal agencies.

"This alliance will extend the reach and raise up the voices of hundreds of thousands of hardworking federal employees across this nation—from the DoD to the VA to the Parks Service to the DoT," said National President David J. Holway. “It’s a testament to the growing strength of the labor movement that we can bring together so many organizations for the singular purpose of improving the lives of the women and men who have devoted their careers to public service.” Press release


NAGE Local R1-134 and R1-144 (FUSE) Donate to Local Charities
NAGE Local R1-134 and Local R1-144 (FUSE) donated $1,152 to the Veteran’s Home in Bristol, R.I. and $1,152 to Lucy’s Hearth in Middletown, R.I. as part of the unions’ annual Christmas charity drive. These donations, made just before Christmas, were made possible by the generous contributions of the union membership and the raffles conducted at the union Christmas party. More>>


NAGE Member Recounts Visit with President Obama at White House


Nancy Fichtner is member of NAGE Local R14-77 and is a Fiscal Program Support Clerk at the Grand Junction, Colorado Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She was the winner of the first annual SAVE Award, and was invited to meet President Obama at the White House on December 21, 2009. She recounts her visit below.

My invitation to the White House became the adventure of my life. I felt like a character out of the Mrs. Pollifax books. With DC airports shutting down and December 21st being declared a snow day for Federal employees we had our challenges, but everyone pulled together and come Monday morning my children and I had an opportunity to meet President Obama and Secretary Shinseki. more >>

In continuing our commitment to helping members and their families achieve their educational goals and dreams, NAGE is proud to announce the 7th Annual NAGE Scholarships program. Each year, fifty scholarships in the amount of $500 each are awarded in a lottery. Applicants for the lottery drawing scholarships must be planning to attend or already attending a two- or four-year college, trade or technical school to be eligible. Scholarships are available to members of NAGE, IBPO, IBCO, and IAEP, and the member's spouse, child, grandchild, niece, nephew, or significant other.
