Leadership Profile: IAEP Local 56-002 President Tiffany Sentani

As a long-time leader of Local 56-002 and a paramedic with AMR of Kauai, Hawaii, President Tiffany Sentani has come to understand the importance of compromise.

"We are fortunate that our local management is willing to work with us," said Tiffany. "We work well together to find solutions that work for both sides."

Tiffany, who has been in EMS since 1990, became an IAEP member in 1998 and quickly took on a leadership role in the local. She is currently serving her second consecutive term as president and previously held the position of vice president for two terms. Since becoming president, Tiffany has learned that making the best decision for the local isn't always the most popular one.

"Sometimes the members feel they deserve more and AMR wants to give less," said Tiffany. When asked what she is most proud of, Tiffany echoed her sentiments by saying "gaining little but not losing too much."

Tiffany is currently attempting to infuse new life into her membership, which experiences little turnover.

"We have a great group and they are very seasoned," said Tiffany. "My concern is that we are so comfortable that we don't have any new blood."

For now Tiffany will continue to work hard to find the compromises that best suite her members and making the tough decisions that come with her leadership role.

"My board and I work well together in discussing the issues and working toward a solution that is best for all involved," said Tiffany. "This also means we have made tough decisions that affect the members in ways they may not always like."
