IBCO Continues to Grow as Essex County Votse Yes by Overwhelming Majority

August 8, 2007

Correctional officers in Essex County voted today to join the International Brotherhood of Correctional Officers, the largest correctional officers union in the Commonwealth. The final vote tally resulted in a win by a margin of nearly 80 percent.

“We welcome our newest members to the IBCO and look forward to providing them with the unsurpassed representational services we’re known for throughout the Commonwealth,” said David J. Holway, IBCO National President. “We have begun a major push to grow the IBCO in the state and across the country and this victory puts us a step closer to our goals.”

IBCO Director David Bernard said of the vote, “I’m really impressed with this group of CO's who stood up for what they wanted when they made the first move toward joining the IBCO. I know it wasn’t easy for any of them because the association they were leaving was very disappointed. I can assure them that we are going to do everything we can to show them that they made the right decision.”

On behalf of all members throughout the state, the IBCO welcomes these Essex County CO's.
